Job Overview

Watson Civil Construction, Inc. is a prominent heavy/highway contractor operating across Florida, focusing on substantial site infrastructure, underground, and roadway projects. We are currently in search of a meticulous and committed Financial Analyst specializing in construction to enhance our dynamic team. This role is pivotal in supporting the financial functions of the organization and ensuring that precise accounting practices are upheld.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in monthly closing activities and related journal entries.
  • Conduct regular internal audits of accounts payable to ensure compliance.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with the Controller regarding project statuses, costs, and modifications.
  • Develop, implement, and refine budgets, policies, and departmental controls to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
  • Create and import spreadsheets, budgets, and reports across various software platforms.
  • Ensure that billings align with and adhere to contractual agreements.
  • Oversee the management of company assets, including fleet and equipment, covering acquisition, disposal, and depreciation schedules.
  • Ensure proper recording of intercompany transactions from related parties.
  • Coordinate the monthly process to accurately record costs to complete on construction projects.
  • Manage the equipment cost module, ensuring that equipment expenses are correctly allocated to projects.
  • Review job cost activities monthly to ensure consistent and accurate entries.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports required by the company.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to strategize and establish processes to achieve financial objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP standards.
  • Engage with external vendors as necessary.
  • Act as a backup for the payroll administrator.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and other tasks as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with a strong understanding of cost accounting principles.
  • At least 3 years of experience in construction accounting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with the Office 365 suite; knowledge of Viewpoint Spectrum is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with a Heavy Civil Contractor is preferred.
  • Strong communication skills to interact effectively with all levels of internal and external stakeholders.
