Job Summary:
Brown University is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Administrator/Lead Systems Administrator to join our team in the School of Engineering. As a key member of our IT infrastructure team, you will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and supporting our computing infrastructure, including software installation, licensing, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and maintain the School of Engineering's computing infrastructure, including software installation, licensing, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
- Implement and support educational, research, and administrative systems and applications, ensuring security, auditing, and restart/recovery functions are properly operating.
- Monitor performance and provide capacity planning information to ensure optimal system performance.
- Identify areas for improvement and suggest enhancements to our IT infrastructure.
- Provide training and assistance to IT Support Consultants and other technical staff, including temps, interns, and student workers.
- Evaluate vendor-supplied software and make recommendations for purchase or development.
- Resolve complex technical problems and function as a project manager as required.
- Author and maintain relevant documentation as needed.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve our goals and objectives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
- 2-3 years of experience with systems administration.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with Hyper-V Virtualization.
- Conceptual knowledge of technical architectures, security, networking, middleware, SDLC, system imaging tools, Azure, and Intune.
- Problem resolution skills, including dump reading and tracing.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong ability to prioritize activities and multitask.
- Demonstrates a willingness and ability to support a diverse and inclusive environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4-5 years of experience with systems administration.
- Expert knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and basic/intermediate Linux Operating Systems experience.
