The State of Illinois is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Rehabilitation/Mobility Instructor to join our team. As a Rehabilitation/Mobility Instructor, you will work with individuals who are blind, visually impaired, and/or DeafBlind to assist them in achieving their goals of employment, education, and independent living.
Key Responsibilities- Provide professional instruction and counseling in health and nutrition to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, and/or DeafBlind.
- Manage a caseload of customers who are blind, visually impaired, and/or DeafBlind.
- Establish and nurture effective working relationships with customers.
- Maintain expertise in current professional rehabilitation instruction methods, discipline knowledge, and discipline-specific health and wellness techniques and knowledge.
- Participate in staff meetings and assist with training for trainee-level staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Requires a master's degree with major coursework in rehabilitation, rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation teaching, guidance and counseling, orientation and mobility, low vision and blindness, special education, or a closely related field.
- Requires one year of professional experience in rehabilitation instruction and counseling.
- One year of professional experience assessing individual needs and developing and implementing a plan of services outlining individualized short- and long-range goals for health and nutrition for individuals who are visually impaired, blind, or DeafBlind.
- One year of professional experience working with federal statutes related to rehabilitation programs.
- One year of professional experience researching and maintaining awareness of current professional rehabilitation instruction methods, disciplines, and information specific to health and wellness.
- One year of professional experience establishing trusting relationships and communicating clearly and effectively with customers, family members, coworkers, providers, and employers.
- One year of professional experience researching and adopting an effective course of action as it relates to services, barriers, and concerns for individuals who are visually impaired, blind, or DeafBlind to reach their potential.
- One year of professional experience utilizing, reading, and writing braille.
- Requires ability to travel to provide services in the customer's home, residential setting, or group setting as well as in the build environment.
- Requires ability to physically access the customer's home environment and/or work environment and use public transportation.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
