Job Goal:
- To assist the special education services teacher in delivering instructional and support services aimed at maximizing student success.
- To collaborate with the teacher in creating a safe and nurturing educational environment.
- To provide support in small group instruction.
- To aid in the preparation and organization of educational materials.
- To foster family engagement in the special education program.
- Associate's degree or 48 semester hours from an accredited institution or a passing score on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment.
- Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment under relevant child protection legislation.
- Proven success in related work experience.
- Capacity to thrive in a demanding and high-pressure environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Effective interpersonal skills, emphasizing collaboration with diverse groups.

- Deliver lessons or segments of lessons to individuals or groups, verifying the accuracy of work and assigning additional tasks as directed by the teacher.
- Assist students in utilizing books, computers, and classroom resources effectively.
- Help maintain routine records related to attendance, grades, and behavior as assigned.
- Facilitate the safe transfer of students in and out of various settings.
- Support students with all aspects of personal hygiene, including toileting and feeding.
- Assist with the mobility of students with special needs as required.
- Serve food and assist students during meal times.
- Support teachers in maintaining discipline and promoting positive student behavior.
- Manage student behavior, including crisis intervention when necessary, in accordance with established guidelines.
- Facilitate the use of mobility aids for students.
- Assist teachers during field trips by addressing students' physical needs and reinforcing learning experiences.
- Support bus drivers in maintaining discipline and addressing students' physical requirements.
- Provide assistance on special education transportation as directed by school leadership.
- Help teachers lead activities and serve as a play leader for designated student groups.
- Administer basic health care or first aid to special education students as directed by a school nurse.
- Supervise students in the absence of the primary teacher.
- Implement behavior management strategies as instructed by the teacher.
- Adapt instructional materials as needed to meet student needs.
- Participate in IEP meetings when requested.
- Transfer with students to different educational settings as needed.
- Perform duties with professionalism and courtesy.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding school and workplace matters.
- Proactively identify potential issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to achieve educational goals.
- Engage in professional development and uphold ethical standards in the workplace.
