About the Role:
Creative Learning Center is seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Behavioral Support Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in supporting the academic and behavioral needs of our students.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instructional support to individual and/or groups of students, monitoring their ability to follow directions and behavior.
- Implement treatment plans using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques.
- Collect data regarding student progress, as directed by licensed staff.
- Assist staff in maintaining charts and other records related to student progress.
- Reinforce academic behaviors taught by licensed staff and provide students with opportunities to practice.
- Assist students in community, recreational, school, and leisure activities under the direction of licensed staff.
- Implement district-approved techniques for verbal de-escalation and safe physical restraint, such as Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and required by the building administration and licensed staff.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.
- 1-2 years' experience working with children in a special needs education setting preferred but not required.
- Ability to collaborate and receive feedback, mentoring, and direction from peers and supervisors.
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining a professional and clinical perspective at all times, with the ability to not internalize or personalize certain student behaviors or mannerisms.
- Demonstrated experience using physical ability and dexterity to safely and effectively use Crisis Management Interventions (including the use of therapeutic holds) of all involved.
- Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (stoop, reach, stand, kneel, squat, sit, walk, lift, pull, grasp) for extended periods of time.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
