Department Information:
The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences encompasses fundamental scientific disciplines within the College of Pharmacy at UIC. Situated in a prominent medical district, the UIC College of Pharmacy is consistently recognized among the top U.S. Colleges of Pharmacy for total funding from the National Institutes of Health.
This department is characterized by a collaborative and research-driven environment, with faculty organized into four primary program concentrations: Pharmacognosy, Chemistry in Drug Discovery, Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery, and Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutics.
Position Summary:
The Department is dedicated to fostering the development of its faculty at all levels, supported by a structured mentoring program for junior faculty members. The successful candidate is expected to cultivate strong collaborative relationships with UIC faculty and may engage closely with various research institutes and centers within the university.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Establish and maintain a robust, externally funded, independent research program.
2. Teach courses at the undergraduate, professional, and graduate levels within the College of Pharmacy.
3. Participate in internal service by serving on Department, College, and University committees.
4. Contribute to external service through community engagement, professional organizations, and publishing at local, regional, and international levels.
5. Collaborate with faculty to create positive learning environments for pre- and post-doctoral students.
6. Undertake additional duties and contribute to special projects as required.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chemical Biology, Synthetic Biology, Pharmacognosy, or a related field. Relevant postdoctoral experience is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to candidates whose research emphasizes natural product drug discovery and integrates aspects of bioinformatics, genetics, plant sciences, microbiology, and synthetic/chemical biology.
