Role Summary:
The Senior Central Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the preparation and management of medical and surgical instruments and supplies utilized in patient care. This role emphasizes advanced expertise and leadership within the perioperative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Organize and prepare instrument sets, including baskets and basin sets, ensuring compliance with sterilization protocols.
- Assemble various clinical supply sets, verifying cleanliness and operational integrity of instruments.
- Conduct thorough decontamination and cleaning of instruments and equipment utilized in diverse medical procedures.
- Efficiently distribute instruments and supplies to designated areas.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels of supplies and equipment.
- Monitor equipment functionality, performing minor repairs and escalating major issues as necessary.
- Exhibit proficiency in processing instruments in accordance with manufacturer guidelines and established protocols.
- Demonstrate technical skills in the reprocessing and upkeep of endoscopic instruments, adhering to high-level disinfection standards.
- Utilize personal protective equipment in compliance with safety policies.
- Act as a primary mentor for new staff.
- Lead initiatives for troubleshooting and quality assurance improvements.
- Ensure availability of cleaning and reprocessing supplies, effectively communicating equipment issues and repair needs.
- Maintain accurate records in designated logs.
Additional Information
Education Requirements:
No specific educational qualifications required, provided other position criteria are met.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
Certification from an accredited program in instrument reprocessing is necessary.
Professional Experience Requirements:
A minimum of two years of experience as a central sterile technician is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
For UNC Medical Center: Successful completion of SCST portfolio requirements is expected.
