Position Overview
This is a full-time position requiring 1.0 FTE, working 8 hours per day on a standard school year schedule, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Role Summary
The Campus Security Officer is responsible for fostering a safe and secure educational environment for students, staff, and visitors at district facilities and events. This role involves monitoring activities to identify potential risks and unsafe conditions, recommending preventative measures, and adhering to established protocols for reporting and escalation of incidents.
Key Responsibilities
The following duties are essential functions of the position and may include, but are not limited to:
- Ensure the safety and security of students, staff, and community members by patrolling school buildings and grounds during operational hours.
- Utilize various modes of patrol, including vehicle, bicycle, or on foot, to monitor district property.
- Provide leadership in safety and security matters while enforcing district policies and regulations.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, and the public through courteous and professional behavior.
- Monitor designated sites, facilities, and district-sponsored events to ensure compliance with safety protocols.
- Engage with students at school sites to foster positive relationships and address concerns related to safety and compliance.
- Participate in school interventions and threat assessment meetings as required.
- Report any violations of conduct codes or unsafe conditions to administration promptly.
- Utilize monitoring equipment, such as surveillance cameras, to uphold safety standards and report suspicious activities.
- Assist in resolving conflicts among students and support administrative investigations as needed.
- Document critical incidents and maintain accurate security logs.
- Collaborate with community safety partners and fire officials to enhance safety measures.
- Assist in emergency situations and participate in safety drills.
- Enforce visitor policies and maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
- Support team members and projects as necessary, ensuring regular attendance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with students, staff, and law enforcement.
- Valid first aid, CPR/AED certification or the ability to obtain within 90 days.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and the ability to apply them effectively.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both written and verbal forms.
- Capability to intervene in emergency situations and diffuse conflicts.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments and situations.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in working with diverse populations and knowledge of student management systems is preferred. A commitment to the education and safety of all students is essential.
