Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Civil Engineer to support our NAVFAC MIDLANT projects in Great Lakes, IL.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide independent, timely, and professional civil engineering support, services, and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported Commands.
  • Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborate with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements.
  • Typical project support includes a broad spectrum of civil engineering projects/services for site developments, roads, airfields, water supply, sewer systems, drainage, dredging, solid waste facilities, shore protection, and other civil works to support new or existing facilities and encompass large industrial facilities, buildings, or project sites, with diverse climatic, geographic, and environmental conditions.
Requirements
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Civil Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional civil engineering code-compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required.
  • Completion of a course of studies from an Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) accredited Civil Engineering program from a college or university with a bachelor's or master's degree in civil engineering, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on design experience, is required.
  • Broad professional knowledge and experience in the theories, concepts, principles, and practices of civil engineering for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of a wide range of shore-based engineering projects, such as: site developments, roads, airfields, water supply, sewer systems, drainage, dredging, waste facilities, shore protection, and other large/industrial civil engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of DOD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices related to civil engineering design, including the International Building Code.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting civil engineering design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR.
  • Skill in the use of software/systems, such as Whole Building Design Guide (WBGD) and AutoCAD, civil design/analysis software, and Specs-In-Tact technologies, Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, civil engineering design and analysis software, and other applicable DoD computer systems.
  • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to civil engineering design.
  • Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts.
  • Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams.
  • Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Must have an Accreditation Board for Engineers and Technology (ABET) bachelor's degree in a civil engineering program.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time.
  • Able to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
  • Capable of light lifting, under 10 lbs.
  • Able to work on-site on a standard 8-hour shift Monday-Friday.
