Responsibilities:
  • Create a safe and nurturing environment for children in care, promoting their physical, emotional, and social well-being.
  • Prepare and serve healthy meals and snacks, following a designated menu and ensuring the children's dietary needs are met.
  • Provide individualized care for each child, including diapering, toileting, and feeding, as well as supporting their self-regulation abilities.
  • Use the Brightwheel app to record meals, toileting, and naps, as well as take photos of the children for parent viewing.
  • Comfort and support children who are struggling with self-regulation, providing a calm and soothing environment.
  • Report any injuries to the director immediately and provide care according to your ability.
  • Assist children in falling asleep, using techniques such as rubbing backs and rocking.
  • Provide individualized care for infants, following a schedule provided by parents for feeding and sleep.
Education and Behavior Management:
  • Assist the lead teacher in planning age-appropriate lesson plans for the classroom, focusing on art, sensory, science, math, and literacy.
  • Help create an environment that fosters learning through play, with activities available to children throughout the day.
  • Incorporate process-based art in the classroom and have open-ended art available for children to explore.
  • Always have a sensory-play option available for children, such as water, rice, or dirt.
  • Use positive behavior management techniques, collaborating with other teachers to determine the best approach.
  • Help decorate the room and create spaces/boards that represent the themes of the curriculum, following a zero-tolerance policy for negative discipline.
Training and Compliance:
  • Follow procedures and guidelines for regulation-based portions of the day, such as diapering, sunscreen, and behavior management.
  • Maintain required training hours, both on and off-site, to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Seek out additional training in areas of interest or need, to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain ratios at all times, ensuring the classroom is always staffed according to regulations.
  • Refrain from using your cell phone in the classroom, maintaining a professional and focused environment.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of experience working with children ages 6 weeks to 5 years.
  • Must pass background checks.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to solve problems and act quickly in a crisis.
