Job Title: UPK Teacher

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced UPK Teacher to join our team at Ibero-American Action League, Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, implementing, and assessing a language-rich, developmentally appropriate program for three- and four-year-olds in accordance with the Rochester City School District Universal Pre-k curriculum and NY state Standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that address the cognitive, social, emotional, and physical needs of children
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with Ibero staff, staff from related agencies, the Rochester City School District, and parents
  • Perform initial assessments of children to determine their progress and update educational programs accordingly
  • Communicate with parents periodically to inform them about their child's progress
  • Organize and maintain a safe and clean environment that promotes children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development
  • Ensure that the classroom meets ECERS criteria
  • Follow Ibero's policies and procedures, NYS regulations, the Rochester City School District, Universal Pre-K curriculum, and regulations
  • Maintain daily attendance records, weekly lesson plans, and other required documents as assigned
  • Communicate concerns regarding absenteeism, suspicion of child abuse and neglect, developmental delays, or inappropriate behavior among children to the Director of Early Childhood Services
  • Inform parents and Health and Disability Advocate of any health and/or disability concerns regarding children
  • Prepare reports as requested
  • Attend parent-teacher conferences
  • Make home visits when necessary
  • Provide leadership to the Pre-K team
  • Assign tasks to Classroom Support Aide and complete work in a timely manner
  • Attend team meetings, Rochester City School District training's, parent meetings, scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and center events as assigned
  • Keep knowledge of children and families confidential
  • Continues to develop professionally
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Services
Requirements:
  • Child Development Associate certification (CDA), Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred
  • New York State Teacher Certification
  • Demonstrated knowledge of child development, early childhood education, and appropriate discipline methods
  • At least 1 year experience working with preschoolers
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Must have clearance through the NYS Central Registry
  • Ability to perform all physical duties required by the supervision of the young child
  • Ability to speak positively and respectfully to children
  • Proficient in spoken and written English
  • Good organization skills
  • Must obtain a physical exam with TB test, fingerprinting, and State Clearance

Physical Demands:

The position requires occasional standing, squatting, lifting of up to approximately 40 lbs. and frequent standing.
