POSITION SUMMARY: The role involves providing essential support to healthcare providers in delivering patient care. REPORTING STRUCTURE: Reports directly to the Clinical Supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enhances communication between patients and healthcare providers.
- Responsible for preparing examination rooms, taking vital signs, ensuring all intake forms are complete, and readying patients for their appointments.
- Assists patients in navigating their care journey, including appointment scheduling.
- Maintains cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, ensuring they are restocked and sanitized at the end of each day.
- Supports providers with procedures such as injections, dressing changes, and prescription preparations.
- Must effectively communicate with physicians, practice managers, and clinical staff, fostering strong working relationships.
- Prepares patient charts for visits, updating demographic information and confirming details with patients.
- Processes prescription requests promptly, documenting all relevant information in patient records.
- Ensures all incoming documents and patient records are routed for physician signatures before being scanned into the system.
- Prepares charts and prints schedules for clinic operations.
The individual in this position must demonstrate the competencies required for the role.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program or possession of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license.
EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 2 years of experience in a medical assistant role or relevant experience. Experience in orthopedics is preferred.
CERTIFICATION: Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred but not mandatory.
KNOWLEDGE BASE:
- Understanding of the healthcare industry and orthopedic practices.
- Familiarity with clinic policies and patient care procedures.
- Proficient in back-office skills, including injections, suture removal, and processing DME and Physical Therapy orders.
- Awareness of patient confidentiality, state regulations, HIPAA compliance, and medical record management.
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Ability to follow up with patients and address inquiries promptly.
- Professionalism in interactions with providers, patients, and their families.
- Capability to assess patient education needs and effectively communicate information.
- Strong problem-solving and time management skills.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor as a representative of the organization.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and complete assigned tasks efficiently.
- Ability to show empathy and understanding when interacting with patients and their families.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Standard office setting with occasional travel within the community.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS: The role requires a combination of sitting and standing typical of an office environment, with some bending and stretching involved. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating a computer and other office equipment.
ORGANIZATIONAL COMPLIANCE:
- Must read and sign the Access and Confidentiality Agreement.
- Completion of Healthcare Compliance Pro Training is required.
