Position Overview: We are currently seeking a full-time Outreach Coordinator for Southern California to lead our initiatives in the region. This role will be instrumental in developing and executing outreach strategies aimed at educating small business owners, community organizations, policymakers, and advocates about critical issues affecting small businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and nurture strong relationships with small business owners, advocacy groups, and policymakers throughout Southern California, focusing on supporting under-resourced entrepreneurs.
  • Conduct outreach and educational efforts for small employers and self-employed individuals, providing resources on topics such as access to capital, healthcare, and paid family leave. This includes organizing and executing presentations, webinars, and engagement activities.
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve specific grant-funded objectives.
  • Encourage small business owners to engage in state and federal policy advocacy through various channels, including writing letters, submitting opinion pieces, and participating in legislative hearings.
  • Disseminate relevant policy updates and information to regional partners to enhance visibility within the small business ecosystem.
  • Expand the network of small business owners across Southern California creatively.
  • Represent the organization at panels, press conferences, and events, and potentially testify at legislative hearings.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts by identifying new funding opportunities and maintaining relationships with existing funders, including detailed record-keeping of outreach activities.
  • Engage directly with small business owners to understand their needs and direct them to appropriate resources.
  • Maintain accurate records of contacts and engagement activities in the organization's database.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Stay informed about critical small business news and developments.
  • Monitor news coverage related to key policy issues and partner organizations.
  • Support team members in other regions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to build and maintain professional relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in outreach or public engagement within the business community.
  • Strong understanding of small business issues and California's political and legislative landscape.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to network effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to a dynamic work environment with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work remotely with team members nationwide.
  • Strong accountability and a drive to exceed expectations.
  • Willingness to travel regionally and occasionally overnight.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in advocacy, public policy, or political organizing.
  • Successful fundraising experience from corporate or philanthropic sources.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce CRM.
  • Proficiency in additional languages such as Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, or Vietnamese.

Location: Candidates must reside in the Los Angeles County area with access to the Southern California region.
