Job Summary

As a Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Technician, you will play a critical role in the laboratory team, responsible for performing, evaluating, and monitoring laboratory tests. Your expertise will ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results, impacting patient care and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and evaluate laboratory tests, selecting and performing additional procedures as needed.
• Monitor workflow and make adjustments to complete work in a timely manner.
• Evaluate results for clinical significance, validity, and appropriateness, following prescribed policies for reporting and notification of test results.
• Perform and document calibration, maintenance, and repair of instruments and equipment, recognizing indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction and implementing corrective actions.
• Conduct quality control and quality assurance activities, evaluating results and taking corrective action as needed.
• Ensure specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, collecting specimens from patients according to established protocols.
• Provide general direction, training, and technical assistance to laboratory staff, assisting in the development of education and training protocols and instructing students, residents, and new team members as assigned.
• Assist in improving the quality and efficiency of laboratory procedures, policies, and processes, ensuring compliance with accrediting agency standards and supporting CAP Regulatory requirements in an acute setting.
• Perform internal and external proficiency testing, as well as specialty testing in areas including transfusion services, microbiology, chemistry, hematology, histology, coagulation, and flow cytometry.
• Support disease-specific accreditations by meeting turn-around time goals and providing direct support and timely, accurate laboratory results for critical care departments during high-acuity patient events.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or graduation from a Medical Technology program approved by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) or an equivalent program in a science-related field, or documented equivalent education and training.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to handle stressful situations in a calm and professional manner.
• Ability to sit, stand, and walk for the majority of the workday, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, radioactive, and/or infectious agents.
