Nurse Extern Resident

This position works at the direction of the Registered Nurse, providing patient care and general duties in the organization. The Nurse Extern/Resident will be responsible for delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process, conducting initial and ongoing patient assessment, analyzing assessment data, creating a plan of care, implementing treatment, and evaluating treatment effectiveness.
Responsibilities- Delivers patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment, identifies and determines the priority of patient's problems/needs, and evaluates the process and outcome of nursing care.
- Coordinates, provides, and directs patient teaching activities and coordinates the care provided by health team members.
- Administers medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Ohio Nursing Practice Act and Mercy Health policies and procedures.
- Serves as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments.
- Obtain RN License within 90 days. If requirement not met due to board failure, must be obtained within 60 days of fail date.
- Recent graduate of an approved nursing program.
- Proper grammar and legible handwriting.
Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur. General office environment - works generally at a desk in a well-lighted, air conditioned office area, with moderate noise levels. May be exposed to limited hazardous substances or body fluids. Potential exposure to infectious organisms. May have periods of constant interruptions. Prolonged periods of working alone may occur.
Additional Job RequirementsThe Nurse Extern/Resident will be required to work on the unit/department to which they are hired as a Nurse Extern/Resident upon obtaining their RN licensure. If the student graduated from an ADN (Associate Degree in Nursing) or a Diploma program, they are required to obtain their BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) within 5 years of employment.
