Job Overview

The Junior Property Accountant at Millennia Housing Management will play a vital role in executing accounting tasks for a designated group of properties within our extensive portfolio, which encompasses over 270 affordable and conventional properties across more than 26 states.

Key Responsibilities

Daily / Weekly Duties:

  • Address inquiries from property operations, lenders, regulators, or investors for assigned properties.
  • Validate general ledger transactions by providing appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Assist in reviewing and analyzing business records such as leases or contracts to comprehend the entity's obligations and manage the properties' operational activities.

Monthly / Quarterly Duties:

  • Prepare account reconciliations and journal entries for assigned balance sheet accounts.
  • Review property trial balances and financial statements for discrepancies and prepare necessary correcting journal entries.
  • Support the preparation of actual-to-budget variance analysis, including footnotes for the monthly financial reporting package for senior management, lenders, regulators, and investors.
  • Assist in preparing replacement reserve draws and calculating management fees.
  • Manage property tax disbursements and mortgage payments.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is mandatory.
  • 0-2 years of experience in an accounting setting with a foundational understanding of US GAAP and cash basis accounting.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems is preferred but not essential.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is required.
  • A willingness to learn about property accounting and the affordable housing sector.

  • Strong collaboration skills are essential, with the ability to build relationships across various functional areas.

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to manipulate objects, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
