Fabrication Manager

Job Summary
The Fabrication Manager, Teaching and Learning plays a critical role in promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment at the Science and Engineering Complex at Harvard's John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for mentoring students and sharing expertise in machining, ensuring the safe operation of the fabrication shop.
This position involves extensive interaction with students, researchers, staff, faculty, and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
Instruction & Mentorship:
Instruct and mentor undergraduate, graduate students, and post-docs in machine shop techniques and fabrication processes through 1-on-1 and small group sessions.
Collaboration:
Work closely with faculty, staff, and students on various research and student projects, offering consultation and support in relation to fabrication and machining.
Shop Oversight:
Manage and oversee daily activities in the Design and Fabrication Shop, ensuring smooth operation during regular hours.
Safety & Compliance:
Promote a culture of safety by enforcing shop safety policies and procedures. Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) officers to maintain compliance with health and safety standards.
Procedural Development:
Assist in creating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instruction documents for the safe and effective use of fabrication equipment.
Procurement & Equipment Maintenance:
Manage consumables inventory and coordinate with vendors for equipment maintenance and repairs. Perform basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on shop equipment.
Qualifications:
Demonstrated passion for teaching and mentoring in machining and fabrication.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Strong collaboration and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities.
Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in fabrication environments.
