Progressive Employment Research Internship

The Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) at the University of Massachusetts Boston is seeking a research intern to join their team in studying employment for people with disabilities. The internship is part of a research project focused on the Progressive Employment model, an emerging evidence-based practice that helps job seekers with disabilities to obtain competitive integrated employment.
Key Responsibilities
As a research intern, you will contribute to ongoing research studies by reviewing and documenting online materials, conducting interviews with Progressive Employment projects across the country, and developing reports based on research findings. You will also participate in team meetings, work with the research lead to develop work plans, and provide updates on progress. Additionally, you will provide input on research approaches, including ways to improve data collection.
Qualifications
To be eligible for this internship, you must identify as a person with lived experience of any type of disability. You should have strong knowledge of and experience in using a computer, including email, online calendars, and Zoom. You should also be willing to learn new skills, such as conducting research, using new computer applications, presenting to an audience, co-facilitating meetings, and writing in plain language. Familiarity with Microsoft applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, is preferred. You should also be able to review comprehensive documents and synthesize key information for review by fellow researchers, as well as develop basic reports and communications for internal and external audiences. Finally, you should have a basic understanding of internet search tools and how they can support research activities, as well as a willingness to learn about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the Rehabilitation Act, and other federal legislation impacting individuals with disabilities.
Supervision and Support
You will be supervised by ICI staff and will also have access to a mentor from the Disability Policy Consortium on this project. We do not provide job coaches or support people, but you can bring your own support person or job coach if you need one. We will provide accommodations, such as assistive technology or sign language interpreters, to ensure that the internship is accessible to all candidates. Compensation and Benefits
You will be paid to work for up to 400 hours during a one-year period, with the option to work full-time or part-time. The hourly rate is commensurate with experience. We will provide you with a laptop and necessary software to use for work on this project. Remote candidates are required to have access to high-speed internet and a quiet work environment. UMass Boston requires background checks for all employees, which will be conducted upon hire.
