Job Summary:

The Rail Transit Maintenance Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effective maintenance of the revenue vehicle fleet and infrastructure. This includes scheduling work orders, conducting preventative and corrective maintenance inspections, and ensuring the availability of necessary parts and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Maintenance Team: Manage, train, and supervise departmental staff to ensure efficient maintenance of the fleet and infrastructure.
  • Asset Management: Monitor and update asset management software to establish preventative maintenance service schedules for revenue and non-revenue vehicles.
  • Vendor Coordination: Coordinate and schedule vendor repair requirements both on and off property, collaborating with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) suppliers as needed.
  • Inventory Management: Track, maintain, and verify repairs, warranty issues, accident reports, and overall inventory levels in the asset management software, including capital spare parts.
  • Communication: Establish effective communication methods and practices for staff across all shifts to facilitate departmental efficiency.
  • Reporting: Generate labor productivity reports to identify trends or shortcomings, working with staff to develop solutions.
  • Training and Development: Support staff training on maintenance procedures and processes related to maintenance tasks.
  • Discipline and Corrective Actions: Administer employee discipline and corrective actions.
  • Work Schedules: Organize work schedules, particularly for weekend, holiday, and/or overtime shifts.
  • Collective Bargaining Agreement: Ensure adherence to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Customer Satisfaction: Proactively seek ways to enhance customer satisfaction and foster stronger customer relationships.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in identifying areas for enhancement and implementing constructive changes.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Business Management, or Administration is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience that enables the successful performance of the role's essential functions will be considered.
  • Experience: Minimum Five (5) years management and supervisory experience in an FTA or FRA-regulated rail transit agency or system or passenger or commuter railroad operation.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Strong leadership abilities with demonstrated experience in supervising and motivating teams. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Occasionally remains in a sitting position at a desk.
  • Frequently uses the computer with fingers and hands.
  • Frequently exposed to outside elements of extreme heat and cold.
  • Occasionally drives motor vehicle.
  • Frequently exposed to fumes, odors, hazardous materials, dirt and dust.
  • Occasionally lifts objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds when moving supplies.
