Job Summary

As a Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist at Memorial Hermann Health System, you will play a vital role in the laboratory team, responsible for performing and overseeing various laboratory tests/procedures as assigned. Your expertise will contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
  • Manage and perform other aspects of daily lab operations, including collections, sample processing, result reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties as required to maintain efficient workflow at a competent level and according to the age/needs of the patient/population served.
  • Interact with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and orders coming into the laboratory and/or reporting results out according to the policies and procedures of the Laboratory Services and with sensitivity to customer needs.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and system; understand, communicate, and comply with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies, including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA.
  • Perform duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process.
  • Ensure safe care to patients. Adhere to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Medical Technology (equivalency required for foreign education) or Laboratory Science and documentation of clinical laboratory training, or experience in high-complexity testing.
  • Medical Lab Technician (ASCP or ASCP-International) or Medical Lab Technician (AMT) or eligible for certification and pass within one (1) year of employment.
