Job Summary

As a Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Technologist at Memorial Hermann Health System, you will play a vital role in the laboratory team, responsible for performing and overseeing various laboratory tests/procedures as assigned. Your expertise will help ensure accurate and timely results, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document test results, quality control, maintenance procedures, and associated corrective actions according to policy/procedure.
  • Manage and perform other aspects of daily lab operations, including collections, sample processing, result reporting/distribution, personnel direction (as appropriate), and clerical duties as required to maintain efficient workflow at a competent level and according to the age/needs of the patient/population served.
  • Interact with hospital personnel, volunteers, physicians, and patients regarding specimens and orders coming into the laboratory and/or reporting results out according to the policies and procedures of the Laboratory Services and with sensitivity to customer needs.
  • Comply with policies, procedures, and initiatives of laboratory services, the hospital, and system; understand, communicate, and comply with standards and conditions set forth by various governmental and accrediting agencies, including TJC, FDA, CAP, AABB, CMS, HCFA, and CLIA.
  • Perform duties in a manner to promote quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction, while promoting safety, cost efficiency, and a commitment to the PI process.
  • Ensure safe care to patients. Adhere to policies, procedures, and standards, within budgetary specifications, including time management, productivity, and accuracy of practice; initiate/oversee inventory checks, supply management, productivity, and accuracy of practice.
  • Gain/maintain functional knowledge of system computers as required by job assignment.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to others.
  • Support system and hospital customer service and quality initiatives. Recognize customer satisfaction issues and respond appropriately. Build and maintain effective relationships with other employees. Develop an effective working relationship with all customers, solicit input, and work with customers to implement mutually satisfying corrective actions.
  • May take part in the interview process of job applicants.
  • Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications, including time management, supply management, productivity, and quality of service.
  • Promote individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; support department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff.
  • Demonstrate commitment to caring for every member of our community by creating compassionate and personalized experiences. Model Memorial Hermann's service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized, and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues.
