Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled IT professional to join our team as a Systems Administrator. In this role, you will be responsible for the analysis, development, modification, installation, backup, testing, and maintenance of operating systems software and storage.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver IT consulting services to departments within the District.
  • Assist in the planning and development of computer systems within a department.
  • Support the operations of a virtualized environment.
  • Direct the implementation and maintenance of computer systems.
  • Prepare contract and purchase specifications for departmental computer hardware and software purchases.
  • Manage specific departmental systems, including identification, diagnosis, and resolution of day-to-day hardware and software operational problems.
  • Manage security and backup of computer systems as required.
  • Review departmental computer requests and prepare annual departmental computer budgets, cost justifications, and supporting reports.
  • Represent the department on various ad hoc and standing committees.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of departmental computer networks, including providing access to various authorized databases.
  • Participate in the ongoing training and development of subordinate IT staff.
  • Evaluate vendor-supplied software packages and make recommendations to IT management.
  • Modify, install, and prepare technical documentation for system software applications.
  • Modify, install, and prepare technical documentation for storage management software and hardware.
  • Modify, install, and prepare technical documentation for backup and recovery systems to meet high availability and mission-critical business needs.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and debug software and hardware problems.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Four years of experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems.
Substitution
  • Graduate study in the designated fields may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
  • Full-time paid experience in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Promotional Requirement
  • Two years of service with the District as a Systems Analyst or an IT Support Coordinator.
  • Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
