Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical/Instrumentation Engineer to join our client's team in Charlotte, NC. This role is vital for providing advanced engineering for systems and electrical/instrumentation equipment associated with the design and construction of Direct Reduction plants and new technology initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform designs and system analyses through calculations basic to Electrical Engineering.
  • Develop and sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to designers for E/I drawings development.
  • Coordinate with Process Engineering and other disciplines on the development of Piping and Instrument Drawings (P&ID's).
  • Maintain the instrument list associated with the P&ID's.
  • Develop logic drawings (E9's) from various data points and coordinate with other project disciplines.
  • Develop device location drawings (E5 and E6's) with the modeling group to ensure proper location and maintenance access.
  • Design and configure the Process Control System (DCS) and ensure proper information is provided for the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT).
  • Lead the E/I design effort for projects by directing assigned engineers and designers, checking drawings and calculations, developing specifications, and ensuring deliverables meet schedule requirements.
  • Review and approve purchasing quotations, vendor drawings, and QA documents.
  • Coordinate projects with outside engineering consultants and third-party engineering firms.
  • Provide technical support for Aftermarket, Inspections, and Purchasing departments.
  • Analyze designed and vendor-supplied equipment for adherence to specifications, codes, standards, and project requirements.
  • Develop new technology designs and incorporate them into larger systems.
  • Travel to job sites for equipment analysis, data collection, on-site inspections, and project support.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering or similar degree may also be considered based on work experience.
Experience:
  • Minimum of 8 years experience in an industrial or technical environment.
  • Experience in the steel industry is a plus.
Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and basic skills in Autodesk products (AutoCAD).
  • Excellent technical writing and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet schedule and deliverable deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering technical skills and processes.
  • Experience with specification, startup, and troubleshooting of process control systems (DCS/PLC).
Certifications:
  • Willingness/Ability to obtain PE certification if required for domestic projects.
Preferred Knowledge and Experience:
  • International travel experience.
  • Industrial plant experience.
  • Design of E/I systems in hazardous areas with adherence to NEC/NFPA and local codes.
  • Specification, startup, and troubleshooting of power systems, switchgear, MCC, MV motors, transformers, etc.
  • Industrial instrumentation and/or power systems (specification, commissioning, and/or troubleshooting).
  • Design of bulk items such as cable tray, conduit, cable specification, lighting, and grounding.
  • Design of E/I Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) design and calculations.

Additional Information:
  • This position requires 10% international and domestic travel based on project demands.
