Position Overview

The Senior Manager of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering will lead the Infrastructure Solutions (IS) team, which consists of Senior Manufacturing and Advanced Manufacturing Engineers, in alignment with the strategic objectives set forth by senior leadership regarding profitability and growth. Key responsibilities will include identifying and implementing Value Analysis/Value Engineering initiatives aimed at reducing costs and enhancing the quality of Astec products. This role will also support General Managers across various sites in planning and executing operational projects that align with annual initiatives derived from the strategic plan of the Senior Leadership Team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate product designs for potential cost-saving opportunities through design for manufacturability, alternative component sourcing, standardization of components, and optimization of materials.
  • Conduct should-cost analyses for both legacy and new products, providing insights for product modularization and standardization.
  • Act as the digital and software authority for tools such as Oracle, Industry 4.0 software, shop floor user interfaces, Product Data Management, and CAD software.
  • Assist in managing the IS Capex process, contributing to the CAR process, PMO support, facilities standardization, layout control, and best practices in manufacturing engineering.
  • Provide insights to the Senior Leadership Team regarding overall IS process capabilities, equipment standardization, product rationalization, and design for manufacturability.
  • Mentor and train site Manufacturing Engineers to strengthen the IS Manufacturing Engineering team. Influence site decisions to optimize, justify, select, install, and launch new manufacturing equipment.
  • Facilitate three-year planning with a focus on IS product, process, and capacity rationalization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical engineering or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in leading engineering teams.
  • 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably with a background in fabrication and assembly across multiple facilities and product lines.
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes, including metal-cutting/forming, assembly, welding, fabrication, painting, tooling, or electrical assembly/routing/integration.
  • In-depth understanding of BOMs and routings and their impact on labor costs.
  • Proficiency in LEAN, Kaizen, and continuous improvement methodologies applicable to manufacturing processes is essential.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Inventor is advantageous.
  • Ability to collaborate and facilitate cross-functional teams to drive change in a complex manufacturing environment.
  • Regular attendance is a requirement.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience in Project Management is preferred.
