Job Summary

X4 Life Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Automation Systems Engineer to join our team in California. As a Project Engineer I/II, you will specialize in working with Automation and Control Systems, specifying system capabilities, design, configure, program, commission & qualify automation control systems and software programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Engineer Level 1:

  • Assist in the design, programming, testing, and commissioning of PLC/HMI/SCADA systems, primarily using Rockwell Automation platforms.
  • Lead a medium-sized team of 2-4 lower-level engineers.
  • Provide hands-on support for brownfield projects, including system upgrades, retrofits, and expansions, providing technical assistance to clients during installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project documentation (technical specs, system architecture, wiring diagrams & test plans).
  • Work closely with the engineering teams performing system integration and implementation tasks, including hardware/software setup, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Support the execution of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).

Project Engineer Level 2:

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of complex automation solutions using Rockwell Automation platforms (PLC/HMI/SCADA).
  • Lead teams of 4+ engineers to drive the engineering, programming, and integration of automation systems for brownfield and greenfield projects, with an emphasis on modernization and optimization.
  • Serve as the technical lead for brownfield projects, coordinating with clients, vendors, and project stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Design, configure, or migrate Aveva Wonderware Systems Platform, ensuring full integration with Rockwell Automation systems.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting and problem-solving during the commissioning phase and ongoing operational support.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, resources, and support proposal development, including scoping, estimating, and creating detailed engineering work plans.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers (Level 1) in developing their skills and advancing project objectives.

Required Qualifications:

Level 1:

  • 3-6 years of experience in automation/control systems, specifically with Rockwell Automation platforms (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • Experience with Aveva Wonderware Systems Platform (Ignition is a plus).
  • Familiarity with PLC programming, HMI development, and SCADA systems.
  • Experience in leading small automation/control projects and teams.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, etc.).

Level 2:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in automation and control engineering, with a focus on Rockwell Automation platforms (PLC, HMI, SCADA).
  • Proven track record of leading and managing automation/control projects simultaneously.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming and HMI/SCADA design (Rockwell Automation).
  • Experience with Aveva Wonderware Systems Platform (Ignition is a plus).
  • Experience with industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC, etc.).
