Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to join the State of Wisconsin as an Accountant. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing financial expertise and support to the State Life Insurance Fund.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain the Fund's automated accounting system
  • Maintain accounts within the automated financial system
  • Reconcile the independent accounting system on a periodic basis with the state accounting system
  • Interpret existing federal, state, statutory and GAAP rules and regulations
  • Maintain the bond portfolio and produce Schedule D reports for the annual financial statement and GAAP fiscal statement for the Fund
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in accounting or auditing from an accredited institution or commensurate professional experience in accounting and/or auditing
  • Utilizing spreadsheets and databases (such as Microsoft Office Excel or similar)
  • General accounting duties (e.g. financial statement preparation, reconciliations, general ledger journal vouchers, auditing, or similar)
  • Using financial systems and/or finance-related platforms
  • Reading, interpreting, and/or applying policy and procedures, related to financial or accounting processes
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in accounting or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Education, training, or experience with insurance regulatory requirements, including those from entities like the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC)
  • Education, training, or experience with a basic understanding of actuarial principles, such as risk assessment and reserve calculations
