Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Services Cross Categorical Behavior Program Coach to join our team at Washington Elementary School District No. 6. The successful candidate will provide ongoing support to special and general education instructional personnel delivering services to special education students, including development of curriculum and the modification or adaptation of curriculum to meet students' needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coach individual teachers/paraprofessionals (regular and special education) who request or require assistance with modification/adaptation of curriculum/instructional strategies, development and implementation of behavioral interventions; and modifications to the classroom environment.
  • Facilitate the activities of the school's special education support team to ensure that student specific IEPs are developmentally or functionally appropriate consistent with Arizona Learning Standards to include the provision of positive behavioral supports.
  • Provide assistance with the coordination of identification, referral and placement process consistent with district policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing inservice to teachers and building staff on special education policy, procedures, and instructional best practices related to special education.
  • Prepare and present professional development activities and events that support school personnel, including District curricula, instruction, assessments, the school improvement process, and related professional developmental plans.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities that are provided by the district and/or by professional development organizations.
  • Provide consultation to principals and the director of special services regarding programs and services involving controversial, sensitive and/or complex issues including parental concerns regarding programs and services.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field;
  • Three years of teaching experience;
  • Valid Arizona Department of Education Teacher Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Documented experience with special education consultation, staff training and program development.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • Understanding curriculum, special education teaching methods and techniques, behavioral interventions, classroom management and professional development;
  • Applying and interpreting special education laws rules regulations;
  • Recognizing training needs in program areas and to implement professional development programs;
  • Displaying a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments and a commitment to quality services;
  • Encouraging and facilitating cooperation, pride, and trust;
  • Engaging and encouraging communication skills while interacting with supervisors, staff, students, etc. to exchange information.
