Summary of Role:

The Kilgore College Police Department operates as a fully licensed law enforcement entity within Texas. Police Officers serve under the Kilgore College Police Department and report directly to the Chief of Police.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and security of all college staff, students, visitors, and property.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the college and its surrounding areas.
  • Carry out investigations and complete necessary offense/incident reports.
  • Respond to assistance requests and maintain activity logs.
  • Testify in court when required.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships with local law enforcement agencies.
  • Enforce college regulations, city ordinances, and applicable state and federal laws.
  • Work hours will vary based on departmental needs.

Qualifications:

To qualify for the position of police officer at Kilgore College Police Department, candidates must:

  • Be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Be at least 21 years old.
  • Possess a driving record that meets KCPD standards.
  • Have or be able to obtain a Texas driver's license.
  • Exhibit good moral character and maintain a stable record in education, employment, and driving.
  • Not have been discharged from military service under less than honorable conditions.
  • Hold an active Texas Peace Officer license and meet TCOLE criteria at the time of employment.

Preferred candidates will demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage positively with the community. Additional preference will be given to those with a Master Peace Officer's License, TCOLE Certified Instructor status, TCOLE Certified Firearms Instructor certification, ALERRT Instructor certification, or other specialized qualifications that contribute to officer training.

  • The base salary for this twelve-month position is $58,500, with opportunities for overtime.
  • Additional incentive pay up to $5,400 annually based on TCOLE Licensure, TCOLE Basic Instructor, Field Training Officer Certification, TCOLE Firearms Instructor, and bilingual skills.
  • With maximum incentives, potential starting pay is $63,900.

Kilgore College does not participate in the federal Social Security program, and employees/retirees are subject to the federal Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and possibly the Government Pension Offset (GPO) laws.
