Position Summary:
The Academic Advisor for Business and Computer Science provides accurate information in the advising process, including course selection, graduation requirements, articulation, and transfer information. The advisor demonstrates a good understanding of each Business and IT pathway and the necessary pre-requisites. The primary focus of the advisor is to assist students with selecting courses for educational goals, course scheduling, and degree audits to ensure progress towards student success and graduation.
Position Responsibilities:
- Maintain student record security standards as set forth by the institution and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Provide academic and career information to a diverse community college student population.
- Participate in registration and student orientation.
- Assist students with developing and updating their education plans.
- Consult with students about future education planning.
- Maintain student success by providing guidance to student support services and workforce career pathways.
- Meet with students through in-person, virtual, phone advising appointments, and various advising and registration events.
- Keep abreast of current education practices.
- Provide information about transfer colleges and universities.
- Work with resource persons to provide students with realistic information about courses.
- Provide accurate and realistic information on job opportunities within the industry.
Minimum Position Requirements:
- Must possess a minimum of a bachelor's degree.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must provide good customer service and interact with students in a positive manner.
- Must have general skills in keyboarding and computer usage.
- Must have the ability to multitask.
- Must be well organized and thorough.
- Must be able to work well with little supervision.
- Must deal professionally and courteously with a diverse student and employee population.
- This is a 12-month position.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
- No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
- No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

- Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

Positions will remain open until filled. Teaching positions will be required to submit official transcripts upon an offer of employment.
