Senior Armed Safety Officer

POSITION SUMMARY:

Accountable for a range of standard safety and emergency security functions aimed at protecting students, staff, visitors, patients, and property. Facilitates Public Safety training and development initiatives. Acts as the primary responder to all emergency situations within the designated facility.

Tasked with the safe de-escalation of critical incidents and exercising sound judgment when engaging with confrontational or escalating individuals.

Serves as an informal mentor to peers, providing training and onboarding for new team members.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

High School Diploma or GED is mandatory.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


A minimum of two years in general security, military, or related public safety roles where the ability to carry a firearm is essential, or an equivalent combination of training and experience demonstrating responsible weapon handling and use of force.

Qualifications:

LEGAL LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Valid Driver's License & compliance with the organization's Vehicle Safety Program policy.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Certification as an Advanced Healthcare Security Officer (IAHSS) is required within one year of employment.

Preferred certification from Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.)

Authorization to carry non-lethal weapons such as a Taser CEW and/or baton is required

Authorization to carry a company-issued firearm is required

Must successfully complete pre-employment psychological evaluation


Must fulfill and maintain all training prerequisites to retain employment, including certifications in Firearms, Taser, ASP Baton, Mental Health First Aid, and others as mandated.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Exemplify the values of Piedmont and deliver exceptional customer service to all patients, staff, and visitors within the facility.

Conduct screening for and interception of weapons entering the premises.

Ensure the security of the hospital, professional buildings, and parking areas.

Communicate to management regarding the development or deficiencies of individual officers and/or shifts, training, project statuses, etc.

Act as an informal resource for colleagues

Facilitate training for new and current employees related to key responsibilities and security operations.

Oversee responses to all routine and emergency security operations as dictated by policy or management.

Maintain ongoing training and preparedness for oneself and junior officers.

Document incidents and conduct initial investigations.

Responsible for monitoring at-risk patients and de-escalating challenging situations.

Respond appropriately to aggressive behavior and apply physical restraints when necessary.

Screen for and intercept weapons entering the facility.

Make informed decisions regarding the use of force, including lethal force, to ensure a secure environment.

Exhibit respect and professionalism in all job-related interactions.

Document incidents in the medical record.

In emergencies, maintain order and safety for all personnel.

Promote crime prevention and a secure working environment through observation, interaction, and intervention.

Enforce all organizational policies, regulations, and applicable state and federal laws.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to demonstrate basic literacy and effective interpersonal communication skills.

Capability to learn and operate computerized security systems, concealed weapons screening systems, CCTV monitoring equipment, and standard two-way radios.

Possess public relations skills, with the ability to manage stress and emergency situations effectively.

Compose clear and comprehensive status reports and correspondence; present ideas and information effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
