TAPPI, a prominent organization in the field of pediatric healthcare, is seeking applications for the position of Associate Chair for Pediatric Research.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and administrative capabilities, along with a distinguished record of achievement in both fundamental and translational research.

The appointment is anticipated to be at the Professor level, with tenure.

The Department of Pediatrics is looking for a visionary leader to enhance and manage research initiatives, leveraging its extensive and varied research portfolio, which is currently supported by significant federal, state, and philanthropic funding.

The Associate Chair for Research will collaborate with various stakeholders, including the Associate Chair for Clinical Research, Division Directors, and other research leaders, to foster a productive research environment within the Department of Pediatrics.

This role will also involve partnerships with established research programs within TAPPI and the broader medical community to advance innovative research in basic, translational, and clinical domains.

The successful candidate will oversee the Pediatric Research Center (PRC) as the Director of the Division.

The PRC is dedicated to understanding the underlying causes of developmental disorders and birth defects, including but not limited to cleft lip and palate, craniosynostosis, and cardiovascular malformations.

The Associate Chair will also serve as a vital resource and advisor, enhancing the health of the established Divisional Research Centers and programs.

TAPPI is committed to fostering a collaborative research environment, offering rich resources and opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration.

The Pediatric Research Center is a key member of various collaborative initiatives and works closely with numerous investigators across the medical community.

The research facilities available within the Division, Department, and organization are extensive, providing an excellent and cooperative research atmosphere.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop a comprehensive strategic plan for departmental research aligned with clinical and educational priorities.
  • Lead the Pediatric Research Center and support divisional research initiatives.
  • Manage the Department's internal research funding programs.
  • Establish a sustainable research infrastructure in collaboration with the Dean and research administration.
  • Represent the Department in significant research-related decision-making bodies.
  • Collaborate with research leaders across the organization on cross-disciplinary initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for translating research initiatives into innovative applications.
  • Oversee the evaluation and monitoring of ongoing scientific programs.
  • Provide leadership for the development of new research programs.
  • Assist in recruiting new faculty and clinical investigators.
  • Support Department leadership in building strategic efforts and infrastructure to enhance research capabilities.
  • Create educational models for faculty and trainee research development and mentoring.
  • Develop metrics for evaluating faculty and resident research contributions.
  • Foster increased engagement of faculty and trainees in research activities.
  • Advise on improving workflows for research administration.

Administrative Duties:

  • Establish and revise protocols for departmental research activities.
  • Ensure regular review and evaluation of research quality and appropriateness.
  • Participate in departmental budget planning and reporting.
  • Serve on committees as designated by Department leadership.
  • Contribute to advancing scientific knowledge through research initiatives.
  • Engage in the peer review process.

Qualifications:

  • PhD, MD, MD/PhD, or equivalent qualifications.
  • Eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of Professor.
  • MDs must be eligible for appointment to affiliated clinical sites.
  • Proven experience in building collaborative relationships with educational partners.
  • Demonstrated success in collaborative problem-solving within academic and clinical settings.
  • A strong record of administrative, leadership, and research accomplishments, with a history of securing extramural funding.
  • Commitment to excellence, discovery, and service in the field of Pediatrics.
