Data Entry Specialist

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Data Entry Specialist to join our team at the Texas Department of Public Safety. As a Data Entry Specialist, you will be responsible for performing complex data entry work, entering data into a computerized information system, and verifying data files for the Texas Highway Patrol Division.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform data entry and verification of data files for the Texas Highway Patrol Division.
- Transcribe enforcement-related documents to acceptable formats for entry into the THP database.
- Prepare error reports for applications and correct data entry errors.
- May advise others on work procedures.
- May verify data entered by others.
- Advise supervisor of equipment and data entry program malfunctions.
- Assist in planning and assigning workloads.
- Assist in the preparation and documentation of procedures.
- May train others.
- Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year's experience performing data entry; operating a personal computer, mainframe computer, or other data entry peripheral equipment.
- Valid driver's license from the state of residence.
- Working knowledge of TXDPS, State, and Federal regulations, legislation, guidelines, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to exercise poise, tact, diplomacy, and establish and maintain positive, working/professional relationships with internal/external customers.
- Organized, flexible, and able to effectively prioritize in a multi-demand and constantly changing environment.
- Ability to quickly and efficiently access relevant information and present research and conclusions in a clear and concise manner.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
Working Conditions:
- Office environment.
- Ambulatory skills, e.g., stand, walk, sit.
- Hand-eye coordination and arm/hand/finger dexterity.
- Ability to speak, hear, and exercise visual acuity.
- Ability to transfer weights of twenty (20) pounds anticipated for this position.
- Occasional driving requirements (5%).
Testing is required for candidates to be considered to go before the oral interview board and will be notified via email provided on the application. Candidates must qualify on the DPS issued data entry test with a minimum of 4,000 keystrokes per hour net speed.
State of Texas Benefits and Retirement Information:
A DPS employee who is selected for a position in the same salary group and state title as their current position will be transferred with no salary change.
A DPS employee who is selected for a position in their current salary group with a new state title may receive an increase of no more than 3.4% over their current salary regardless of posted salary.
Salary is contingent upon qualifications and is subject to salary administration and budgetary restrictions.
