Position Overview

The Excess Casualty Territory Underwriting Manager plays a crucial role in overseeing the underwriting operations for a substantial portfolio within Chubb's North America Commercial Insurance Division. The key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring the achievement of essential performance indicators for a $380M ($160M Monoline) portfolio of Umbrella and Excess business across various regions.
  • Managing and supervising both new and renewal business within the designated territory, while providing support to branches in pipeline management and key account retention.
  • Acting as the primary referral point for matters exceeding branch-level authority, leveraging home office underwriting authority as necessary.
  • Collaborating with Industry Practice, Line of Business, CI Regional Manager, and local branch offices to devise strategies aimed at attracting and retaining business while executing CI underwriting initiatives.
  • Enhancing the underwriting knowledge of field staff through targeted training and development opportunities.
  • Offering insights on the underwriting authority of field personnel and fostering the growth of underwriting specialists.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with both internal and external stakeholders, necessitating regular visits to customers and agencies/brokers.
  • Demonstrating the ability to work effectively within a team environment alongside Industry Practices, Line of Business, Claims, Operations, and CI Field to achieve optimal results.
  • Willingness to travel regularly (35%+ of the time) to local branch offices within the assigned territory.

Reporting Structure:

This position reports directly to H. Bennett Himes, EVP, CI Casualty Manager.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of 15 years of experience in property and casualty underwriting, with a proven track record in managing complex accounts. Experience with intricate monoline Excess Casualty business is preferred. A deep understanding of commercial underwriting principles and insurance industry practices is essential.

Candidates must exhibit advanced competencies in achieving results, customer development, collaboration, teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication and negotiation skills.

Strong interpersonal, analytical, and negotiation abilities are necessary, along with the capacity to engage effectively with all levels of internal and external business partners.


Location:

Open (dependent on the selected individual's residence).

Education:

A four-year bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required.

The compensation range for this role is $146,500 to $240,500, with specific offers contingent upon the applicant's skills and other relevant factors. The disclosed salary range may be adjusted based on the geographic differential applicable to the location where the position is filled.
