Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Crime Scene Specialist I to join our team at the City of San Diego. As a key member of our forensic team, you will be responsible for collecting, processing, and preserving evidence to aid in police investigations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process evidence from crime scenes, including fingerprints, DNA samples, and other physical evidence
  • Develop and enhance latent prints using various techniques
  • Photograph crime scenes, evidence, and related events to assist in investigations
  • Use digital photography and related software to analyze and document evidence
  • Locate, collect, and preserve evidence using various techniques, including photography, fingerprint processing, and swabbing
  • Develop and enhance visible prints at crime scenes and on items of evidence
  • Examine suspects and victims for purposes of evidence collection and photography
  • Testify in court as an expert witness
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or higher in a forensic or physical science, or equivalent experience
  • 200 hours of experience in one or more of the following areas: fingerprint development, crime scene investigation, evidence collection and processing, preservation of physical evidence, and forensic photography
  • Valid California Class C Driver License
  • Highly desirable: experience in a crime laboratory setting and possession of a bachelor's degree or higher in a physical science
