General Purpose:

The Sewer Maintenance Technician is responsible for executing a variety of skilled tasks related to the upkeep and repair of the municipal sewer collection infrastructure.

Supervision:

This position operates under the general oversight of the Street & Sewer Supervisor, as well as the Sewer System Operator III or II during training or on specific projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer collection systems.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools, including tapping machines, jackhammers, and compactors.
  • Perform routine maintenance on irrigation systems and ensure proper drainage in ditches.
  • Inspect sewer lines for leaks or malfunctions and implement necessary repairs.
  • Monitor and maintain city sewer collection system main lines.
  • Conduct surveys of manholes and perform necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Travel city routes to assess line conditions and prevent blockages.
  • Ensure compliance with established sewer connection procedures.
  • Operate and maintain sewer inspection equipment and maintain accurate records.
  • Engage in cleaning and inspection of sewer mains as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Experience: One year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with sewer collection systems and safety standards.
  • Ability to operate heavy machinery and perform physical labor.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capacity to work under varying weather conditions.

Special Requirements:

  • Must obtain Utah State Waste Water Collection System Operator Certification level I within two test cycles.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • May need to achieve HAZMAT certification.
  • Must be able to lift 50-75 pounds and be available for on-call duty.

Work Environment:

This role involves a variety of physical activities, including walking, standing, and lifting. Daily local travel is expected as part of job responsibilities.
