The Department of the Interior is seeking a highly skilled Attorney-Advisor to join our team. As a key member of our Departmental Ethics Office, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance on government ethics, conflict of interest laws, and other related matters.
Key Responsibilities- Provide legal advice and guidance to Department employees on government ethics, conflict of interest laws, and other related matters.
- Review and analyze public and confidential financial disclosure reports, providing guidance and recommendations as needed.
- Coordinate with other agencies, including the Office of Government Ethics, the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel, and the Office of Special Counsel, to ensure compliance with ethics regulations.
- Refer potential ethics violations to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) and provide technical assistance to the OIG in the analysis of potential ethics violations.
- Recommend disciplinary or remedial actions to program officials arising out of OIG reports of investigation.
- Must be a law school graduate with an LL.B. or J.D. degree and an active member in good standing of a state, territory of the United States, District of Columbia, or Commonwealth of Puerto Rico bar.
- Must have at least 1 year of professional legal experience following law school graduation, or a second professional law degree, or meet one of the following criteria: academic standing in the top one-third of law school graduating class, graduation with academic honors, significant participation on the law school's law review, significant participation in the law school's moot court competition, significant participation in a clinical legal aid program, significant summer law office clerk experience, or other equivalent evidence of clearly superior achievement.
- Must have excellent oral communication, writing, research, and analysis skills, and the ability to work effectively with other people and exercise sound judgment.
This position is located within the Department of the Interior, Office of the Solicitor, Departmental Ethics Office, National Office and Bureau Programs, National Park Service Branch in Washington, D.C.
Salary InformationFirst-time hires to the Federal government normally start at the lower salary range of the grade level. The salary range for this position is GS-13: $117,962 (Step 1) - $153,354 (Step 10*) per annum, and GS-14: $139,395 (Step 1) - $181,216 (Step 10*) per annum.
