Job Title: Mechanical Engineer II

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer II to join our Engineering Team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting and supporting ongoing engineering efforts on new product development of mechanical and/or electromechanical products and maintaining existing products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with a multi-functional team to develop new mechanical and electromechanical concepts, new designs, and implement new technologies that support growth of product categories.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams as well as vendors to ensure a smooth product launch and maintenance.
  • Serve as technical project manager of engineering activities and act as liaison for external resources and partners to ensure timely implementation.
  • Communicate technical concepts, challenges, solutions, and progress to technical and non-technical teammates and leaders.
  • Participate in ideation and user feedback sessions to discover new product opportunities or improvements.
  • Interpret user needs and product requirements into documented technical requirements.
  • Use Design for Manufacturing (DFM) best practices early in the design process to ensure manufacturability and quality of products designed.
  • Create part and assembly drawings using appropriate GD&T and SPC standards.
  • Utilize experience to improve and implement engineering best practices for design, DFM, drawings, and documentation.
  • Develop engineering test plans, procedures, and processes for products and product lines.
  • Collaborate in the evaluation of technical and manufacturing capabilities of new factories.
  • Collaborate in the review of patents, relevant journals, and proceedings to determine if new techniques used by competitors or related industries are of interest or threat.
  • Represent the company at trade shows, technical conferences, and factory visits (domestic and foreign).
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in robotics, mechatronics, or mechanical engineering from a four-year college or university; and no less than 5 years progressive experience in design, development, manufacture, and assessment of electromechanical products; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience designing electromechanical products (preferably for consumer products) that include motors, gears, sensors, pushbutton keypads, etc.
  • Experience developing and designing smart electromechanical products using sensor feedback to determine changes of state, position, or other information for firmware or software to act upon.
  • Able to negotiate technical requirements and make the necessary judgments on technical trade-offs.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, DMMs, and other electronic measurement tools to aid in development of electromechanical products.
  • Experience designing products for zinc diecast, steel stamping, plastic injection molding, steel forging manufacturing processes.
  • Experience performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and utilizing other various analysis tools to simulate design performance prior to prototyping and tooling.
  • Experience designing for rapid prototyping processes (SLA, FDM, SLS, MLS, etc.) to quickly evaluate concepts and functionality before beginning detailed design.
  • Proven project management experience driving technical aspects of projects and communicating status.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with technical and non-technical departments, including Marketing, Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Sourcing, and external partners and resources to achieve project goals and timelines.
  • High-level product expertise, particularly commercial and residential door hardware and/or portable security, is preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.
