Position Summary:

As a Procurement Counselor within the Empire APEX Accelerator, you will play a crucial role in our Innovation and Entrepreneurship Practice. Your primary responsibility will be to support businesses in formulating strategies to initiate or enhance government sales across various regions in Upstate New York.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise companies on government procurement processes in compliance with federal, state, local, and military regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records in APEX's proprietary software related to client counseling and outreach activities, ensuring adherence to U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) standards.
  • Facilitate outreach initiatives targeting relevant business categories associated with APEX events.
  • Assist in crafting marketing strategies aimed at both APEX members and potential non-member firms.
  • Contribute to the development of evaluation plans to assess the efficiency and effectiveness of the APEX program.
  • Deliver formal presentations to external stakeholders and decision-makers in economic development, promoting APEX as a valuable resource for qualified contractors and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with the APEX team to devise and implement strategies aimed at increasing government contracts awarded to local firms.

Candidate Profile:

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of one year of experience in government procurement, either in a commercial business or government agency setting.
  • Proven experience in counseling businesses to enhance profitability through revenue growth or cost reduction.
  • Strong ability to conduct market research and develop tailored marketing strategies for individual clients.
  • Skilled in building relationships with government agency representatives to assist firms in obtaining necessary certifications.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks and achieve objectives within budgetary and time constraints.
  • Exceptional public speaking abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant government business software applications.

Willingness to travel within the designated coverage area for outreach and training purposes is essential.


Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree in business or a related field, accompanied by one year of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of advanced education, training, and experience will also be considered.


Compensation:

The starting salary range for this role is $60,334 - $65,000.
