Cardiac Sonographer Specialist

The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for performing echocardiography-related procedures in various settings. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular principles and ultrasound physics and instrumentation. The cardiac sonographer is responsible for acting as a liaison between staff, physicians, patients, and family members while exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of the clinical examination.
The cardiac sonographer will provide the physician with an oral or written summary of the technical findings as well as provide patient education. This position includes on-call duties (nights, weekends, and Holidays) on a rotational basis.
Essential Functions:
1. Carries out high-quality cardiac examinations following department protocols and procedures.
2. Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
3. Proficient in operating echocardiography equipment and analyzing results.
4. Examines requisition for appropriate orders, exam date, and indication for exam.
5. Provides accurate data to cardiologist reading exam studies per exam policy and procedures.
6. Acquires appropriate imaging suited towards the indication of exam.
7. Demonstrates competency in imaging and transmitting echocardiograms to appropriate PACs system.
8. Documents appropriate preliminary results for cardiologist to read in EMR.
9. Ensures the procedure type and related supplies are documented and billed correctly in EMR.
10. Meets expectations of quality requirements for the lab set by the medical imaging director.
Additional Requirements:
1. Education - Associates degree in Applied Science.
2. Certification - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) Certification - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
or
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) - Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
Physical Requirements:
Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly % of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occassionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects.
Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances.Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours), which may include night shifts or occasional irregular hours.
