Role of the Sales Tax Compliance Specialist:
The Sales Tax Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring adherence to sales tax regulations and laws. This role involves streamlining sales tax processes, providing training to internal teams, managing audits, and identifying strategies to mitigate compliance risks. Additionally, this position supports daily accounting functions to ensure accurate financial operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Sales Tax Compliance and Strategy:
- Manage sales tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring timely and accurate filings.
- Collaborate with various teams to maintain effective sales tax processes.
- Ensure data integrity in sales tax reporting and accounting.
- Oversee daily e-commerce to ERP connections for sales tax accuracy.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms during state registration.
- Meet deadlines as outlined in the tax filing calendar.
- Establish and verify exemption certificates in relevant states.
- Prepare for and manage sales tax audits, including documentation and auditor communication.
- Implement systems to support audit defense.
- Identify and mitigate sales tax risks, including penalties and interest.
- Work with the Event Coordinator on event sales tax reporting.
- Assist in reviewing and processing invoices for accuracy.
- Classify and document vendor bills appropriately.
- Monitor the accounting email inbox for inquiries and issues.
- Record customer payments across various platforms.
- Support month-end and year-end closing processes.
- Ensure daily payment accuracy through e-commerce to ERP connections.
- Provide training on sales tax policies and compliance to internal teams.
- Stay informed on industry trends and best practices.
- Maintain standard operating procedures documentation.
- Organize digital filing systems for efficiency.
- Participate in special projects as needed.
- Provide backup support for accounting processes when necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate's degree in Accounting/Business or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years in an accounting role required.
- At least 2 years of experience in sales tax compliance required.
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles.
- Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian sales tax compliance.
- Experience in manufacturing and inventory accounting preferred.
- Proficiency in Google Business Suite and MS Office 365.
- Familiarity with platforms like Shopify, Acumatica, and Zendesk is a plus.

This position offers a hybrid work model. The standard work hours are Monday through Thursday, with flexibility for remote work on Fridays.
