Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Support Specialist to join our team at Prosperity Wellness Center. As a Peer Support Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing education, assessment, intervention, and outreach services to our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to work with patients individually, introducing them to step-work and other self-help modalities, while also developing and maintaining relationships with patients in the program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide education and support to patients on recovery strategies and coping techniques
  • Develop and maintain relationships with patients in the program
  • Conduct patient engagement sessions and provide psychoeducation
  • Assist in patient engagement and ATA blocking
  • Work with patients to develop a daily routine focusing on behaviors needed for long-term recovery
  • Orient patients to the program and schedules
  • Share personal recovery experiences and model effective coping techniques and self-help strategies
  • Comply with facility policies and procedures
  • Participate in all staff meetings and attend in-services and educational training as necessary
Requirements
  • Previous experience in behavioral health or substance treatment is strongly preferred
  • Past experience working directly with people in a service-oriented field is beneficial
  • High school diploma or equivalency required
  • Valid driver's license
  • Minimum of 1 year sobriety, if in recovery
  • First Aid, CPR, AED certification within 30 days of hire
  • De-escalation/restraint technique certification within 90 days of hire
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to document within an electronic system
Preferred Qualifications
  • Past or present consumer of mental health or substance abuse services with a history of managing one's own illness
  • Awareness of the importance of recovery in living with a mental illness or addictions problem
Washington State Requirements
  • Must be a Certified Peer through the Washington State Health Care Authority
  • Must apply for a WA Department of Health, Agency Affiliated Counselor (AAC) credential, within 30 days of hire and maintain this credential throughout employment
