Accounting Leader for a Thriving Real Estate Firm

Bernstein Management Corporation (BMC) is a renowned leader in real estate management with over 70 years of experience. Our investment affiliate is a fully discretionary, private real estate fund with assets valued at over $2.0 billion and a low leverage approach.

We are seeking an experienced accounting professional to join our team as the AVP Accounting. This role will oversee corporate, property, investment, and partnership accounting and financial reporting, commercial lease administration, tax, and insurance regulatory filings and payments. The successful candidate will report directly to the SVP, Accounting & Finance and supervise 3 direct reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the day-to-day financial operations, including the full accounting lifecycle from property and investment level transactions to monthly financial reporting.
  • Lead the development of the accounting team and recommend hiring and outsourcing solutions to manage workloads and team engagement.
  • Manage the accounting close process, including timelines, checklists, standard and ad hoc journal entry review, and distribution of internal and external financial reports. Provide regular status updates on progress.
  • Deliver and analyze financial reports for lenders, partners, and investors.
  • Ensure accurate and timely delivery of financial statement audits, tax filings, and other external auditor and tax accounting firm deliverables.
  • Partner with FP&A on forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain capitalization policy for all applicable fixed assets, acquisitions, and expenses.
  • Analyze and ensure accuracy of regulatory filings and reports for real estate taxes and insurance.
  • Review and manage tenant billing matters, ensuring timely resolution.
  • Establish efficient operational and accounting processes for scalability and future growth.

Requirements:

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong understanding of technical real estate and investment accounting.
  • Excellent analytical skills, including data analysis and visualization for executive presentation.
  • Effective time management and communication skills.
  • A hands-on approach, with a can-do attitude and willingness to adapt to multiple roles.
  • Proven project management skills, prioritization, and escalation expertise.
  • Professional presence, outstanding work ethic, and a strong team player.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Yardi (property management accounting software).
  • Ability to develop and maintain reports using SQL, Advanced Excel, Power BI, etc.
  • Real estate tax preparation or review expertise.
  • Nexus or PayScan (accounts payable software) experience.

The estimated salary for this role is $195,000 - $205,000 annually, plus bonus incentives.
