Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified part-time Graphic Design Instructor to join our team at Madison Area Technical College. As a Graphic Design Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching courses in the Graphic Design program, developing curriculum, and advising students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach courses in the Graphic Design program, including Print and Production, Computer Graphics, Typography, and Graphic Design
  • Develop and plan instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate
  • Instruct students in classes and participate in college service activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor
  • Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters
  • Evaluate student performance in courses taught by the instructor
  • Actively work with other personnel in student recruitment, retention, and job placement
  • Develop and maintain curriculum in collaboration with department/division staff
  • Participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction
  • Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.
  • Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as internships, work-study assignments, team projects, etc.
  • Maintain certification as an instructor with the Wisconsin Technical College System
  • Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement
  • Attend Division, department, and advisory committee meetings
  • Develop strategies aimed at the retention of minority/female students
  • Participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.
  • Design curriculum and instruct in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student and business needs
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the college values of excellence, respect, and integrity
  • Perform such other duties as assigned by the President or designee
Requirements
  • Associate's degree in Illustration or Graphic Design
  • Five (5) years or 10,000 hours of professional experience (other than teaching) in Illustration, Graphic Design, or related field
  • Comprehensive and demonstrated knowledge skills as related to design and production
  • Skill in oral and written communications
  • Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including the use of distance education and other methods of alternative delivery
  • Ability to interact with business and industry to establish partnerships
  • Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds
  • Actual and demonstrable hands-on experience using Adobe Creative Cloud Apps like Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Demonstrated and documented professional working knowledge of electronic document preparation and traditional production methods in a provided portfolio
