Therapeutic Recreation Specialist

The Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) is responsible for providing Recreational Therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic activity interventions. The CTRS utilizes individual and/or group activity interventions to bring about positive changes in the client's behavior, cognitive, social, emotional, or physical.
The CTRS educates the client in healthy coping skills and available leisure resources to continue the client in post-discharge leisure planning and involvement. The CTRS will be responsible for evaluating each client's progress and the effectiveness of therapy treatment and recording the results daily.
The CTRS will attend treatment team conferences to exchange information and observations with other members of the team, as well as assisting with the completion of the initial treatment plan and progress summary updates.
Responsibilities- Provide Recreational Therapy services, including assessment, treatment planning, and therapeutic activity interventions
- Utilize individual and/or group activity interventions to bring about positive changes in the client's behavior, cognitive, social, emotional, or physical
- Educate the client in healthy coping skills and available leisure resources
- Evaluate each client's progress and the effectiveness of therapy treatment and record the results daily
- Attend treatment team conferences to exchange information and observations with other members of the team
- Assist with the completion of the initial treatment plan and progress summary updates
- Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation from an approved program
- Certification by National Certification Board (NCTRC)
- Experience in a behavioral health hospital setting preferred
