Role Overview:
The SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) plays a crucial role in delivering timely and compassionate care to pediatric victims of sexual assault. This position involves conducting medical-forensic examinations, providing necessary prophylaxis, and ensuring appropriate referrals for ongoing medical and psychological support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and document thorough sexual assault medical forensic interviews and examinations in a timely manner.
  • Perform comprehensive medical evaluations, including assessments for trauma, genital/anal examinations, and forensic specimen collection.
  • Ensure the confidentiality of patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Administer prophylactic medications and emergency contraception as needed.
  • Coordinate referrals for follow-up care and support services.
  • Participate in legal proceedings as a fact witness for cases handled.
  • Engage in community outreach and awareness initiatives directed by Child Advocacy Protection Services (CAPS).
  • Maintain professional standards and participate in ongoing training and education relevant to sexual assault and forensic nursing.
Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an ADN or BSN, with a preference for BSN.
  • Current nursing license in the State of Wisconsin.
  • A minimum of two years of nursing experience, with a preference for specialty experience in women's health or emergency care.
  • Current CPR certification (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Completion of SANE-A and SANE-P training within the designated timeframe after hiring.
Professional Development:
  • Attend a minimum of 80% of SANE staff meetings and participate in multidisciplinary team discussions.
  • Maintain clinical education hours relevant to sexual assault and forensics.
  • Engage in court observations as required to enhance professional knowledge.
Work Schedule:
This position requires on-call availability, typically amounting to 48 hours per month, to respond to sexual assault cases in the emergency department.
