We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Blood Bank Supervisor/Clinical Laboratory Scientist to lead our blood bank department at a busy trauma hospital in Southern California.
Responsibilities:- Department Leadership: Supervise and manage the daily operations of the blood bank department, including staff scheduling, training, and performance evaluation.
- Quality Assurance: Oversee the maintenance of accurate and complete records for all blood bank activities, including inventory control, testing, and transfusion.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other departments to ensure timely and accurate processing of blood samples and transfusions.
- Regulatory Compliance: Monitor quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and hospital policies.
- Policy Development: Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the safe and effective use of blood products.
- Technology Implementation: Participate in the selection, validation, and implementation of new blood bank technology and equipment.
- Technical Expertise: Provide technical expertise and consultation to physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals on transfusion-related issues.
- Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and data analysis to improve patient outcomes and efficiency.
- Regulatory Affairs: Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies, including AABB, FDA, and CAP.
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
- Licensure: California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License or eligibility for licensure.
- Certification: ASCP certification in Blood Banking preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in blood bank/transfusion medicine, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Skills: Thorough understanding of transfusion medicine, blood banking, and regulatory requirements.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of hospital staff.
- Computer Skills: Strong computer skills and experience with laboratory information systems and blood bank software.
