Job Summary

The Director of Core Facilities provides strategic leadership and oversight for all centralized Core Facilities at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, housed under the Institute for Applied Life Sciences. This role involves developing and implementing business models, marketing services, and ensuring fiscal viability of each core facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Planning and Business Operations: Develop and implement strategic plans for Core Facilities, incorporating sustainability and business models for current core services.
  • Administrative Oversight: Act as a primary liaison between Core Facilities, IALS Leadership, and UMass Amherst internal departments, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and managing legal and regulatory agreements.
  • Marketing and Engagement: Proactively market Core Facility services to internal and external customers, collaborate with departments and offices across campus to establish and operationalize research infrastructure, and represent IALS Core Facilities at internal and external meetings.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in business, engineering, or science-related field.
  • Five (5) years' experience in an academic or industry setting, with working knowledge of the core facility landscape, business strategy, and operations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific and financial information to diverse audiences.
  • Proven executive leadership experience, with a track record of successful leading and developing high-performing teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated track record of working well with multiple stakeholders both within and outside the University.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple core facilities as independent business units to ensure the most effective use of limited resources.
Work Schedule

Required to work some nights and weekends, as needed.
