Job Overview

UnCruise Adventures offers an exceptional opportunity for a dedicated and hardworking individual to join our team as a Galley Utility. This physically demanding role is responsible for maintaining the dish station in the galley, ensuring cleanliness and sanitation of the workspace, and assisting with general galley cleaning projects.


Salary and Benefits

The estimated annual salary for this position is $49,440, based on a daily rate of $135 plus a guaranteed tip of $70. Additionally, UnCruise Adventures provides a range of benefits, including room and board when scheduled, rotation schedule (6-8 weeks sailing with 2-3 weeks off), travel stipend, pro deals, credential reimbursement (qualifications required), and healthcare benefits (once qualifications are met).


Job Responsibilities
  • Dishwashing: Properly wash, rinse, and sanitize each type of plate, silverware, pot, pan, utensil, and glassware using a commercial dishwashing machine.
  • Galley Sanitation: Assist with cleaning the galley throughout the day, maintain proper food handling and storage procedures in accordance with CDC/FDA guidelines, and assist with trash removal and disposal.
  • Provision Storage: Actively involved with helping store the weekly provisions.
  • Guest Interaction: Interact with guests in a friendly and courteous manner at all times, escort guests to their stateroom at the start of the cruise, and assist with luggage handling.
  • Cooking and Preparation: May be asked to participate in cooking, preparation, or plate-up of food items as a member of the galley team.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in a general kitchen or galley setting, or possess a great attitude and some experience with customer service.
  • Time Management: Good time management skills: ability to handle multiple tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Communication: Must be flexible and willing to communicate professionally with the Chef and other crew members.
  • Teamwork: Ability to get along with co-workers and support a team environment.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable living and working in close quarters with other crew members for many weeks at a time, with no days off.

Safety and Security
  • Compliance: Comply with all CDC/FDA vessel sanitation requirements.
  • Training: Participate in on-board safety training, meetings, and drills as directed by the Captain, including fire, abandon ship, man overboard, flooding, and medical emergencies.
  • Familiarity: Maintain familiarity with all duties under the company Safety Management System, including Emergency Response Activities.

Physical Demands and Environment
  • Living Conditions: Crew live in close quarters with 4 to 8 people of all genders per room, depending on the vessel.
  • Work Shift: Physically able to work 12 hours per day, 7 days a week, for 6 to 8 weeks at a time, with rotations off the vessel usually being 2 to 3 weeks.
  • Mobility: Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, kneeling, crawling, and pushing/pulling; must ascend and descend stairs and ladders, sometimes while carrying tools or objects.
  • Handling/Strength: Able to handle, lift, and lower objects totaling 50 pounds between the ground/deck level and a height of about 4 to 6 feet, and able to repeat these movements.
  • Environmental Conditions: Able to work in all weather conditions, around loud noise, in small spaces, and fit through a 28-inch-wide hatch.
