Job Overview

Position Summary

The Rehabilitation Therapy Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting Rehabilitation Therapists in delivering therapeutic interventions and procedures. This position may involve assisting in the formulation of treatment strategies, executing routine tasks, documenting treatment progress, and adjusting specific therapies based on patient conditions, all while adhering to established treatment protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guides, encourages, and ensures the safety of patients during exercise routines or functional tasks. Monitors patients throughout treatments to gather and assess data on their responses and progress, providing feedback to the Rehabilitation Therapist through direct communication or progress documentation.
  • Collaborates with rehabilitation staff and other professionals to review and assess patient information for the purpose of planning, adjusting, and coordinating treatment approaches. Instructs caregivers and family members on patient therapeutic activities and care plans.
  • Assists in transporting patients to and from therapy areas, ensuring proper lifting and transferring techniques are utilized. Secures patients in therapy equipment as necessary.
  • Administers both active and passive therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, aquatic therapy, and various modality treatments including ultrasound, heat, light, and sound therapies.
  • Evaluates patients' range of motion, body measurements, and vital signs to assess treatment effectiveness or for patient evaluations.
  • Monitors the functionality of therapeutic equipment and maintains records of equipment usage and treatment administration.
  • Assists in fitting patients for orthopedic supports, prosthetic devices, and mobility aids such as crutches.

Shared Duties/Other Responsibilities

  • Maintains a comprehensive understanding of practice management software and other relevant technologies as they pertain to job responsibilities.
  • Upholds the confidentiality of patient information in compliance with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Capable of lifting, positioning, pushing, and transferring patients as needed.
  • Frequent engagement in reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, and crouching activities.
  • Participates in regular staff meetings and continuing education opportunities as required.
  • Exhibits a professional demeanor in appearance, motivation, and work ethic.
  • Consistent attendance is essential.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Academic/Technical Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or certification from an accredited rehabilitation therapy program, including coursework in anatomy and physiology, along with clinical experience.

Industry Experience

  • A minimum of one year of experience in a healthcare practice setting.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
  • Proficient in medical practice management systems and electronic health records.
  • Basic understanding of rehabilitation therapy and medical terminology, along with essential computer skills.

Communication Skills

  • Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication abilities.
