Position Overview:
The Industrial Maintenance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance of machinery and equipment in a continuous improvement environment, while fostering a safe workplace.
This role involves setting up, installing, repairing, and maintaining production and manufacturing equipment. The specialist inspects machinery for proper operation and performs preventative maintenance in accordance with manufacturer guidelines. Diagnosing equipment issues and executing repairs or adjustments as necessary is a key responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the effective installation, repair, and upkeep of machinery and equipment.
- Perform diverse tasks to install and maintain production machinery and facility equipment.
- Conduct scheduled maintenance and repairs on production equipment during service periods.
- Provide emergency and unscheduled repairs for production machinery.
- Execute basic machinist duties and responsibilities.
- Utilize mechanical skills, including troubleshooting and repairing production machines.
- Interpret equipment manuals and work orders to carry out necessary maintenance and service.
- Diagnose issues, replace or repair components, and perform testing and adjustments.
- Conduct regular preventive maintenance on machinery, equipment, and facilities.
- Perform various plumbing and carpentry tasks.
- Employ a range of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in the execution of duties.
- Identify faulty operations and defective materials; report these and any unusual situations to the appropriate supervision.
- Adhere to safety regulations and maintain clean and organized work areas.
Mechanical Expertise:
- Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) on specific plant production systems and equipment.
- Capable of executing minor mechanical rebuilds and assisting with major rebuilds.
- Perform setup procedures on various production plant equipment.
- Troubleshoot and resolve most mechanical issues on production equipment.
- Understand the operation of most auxiliary support systems.
Electrical Proficiency:
- Replace like-for-like electrical components and set them up.
- Troubleshoot some electrical issues using appropriate tools and techniques.
- May require assistance with device replacement setup.
Qualifications:
Education and Work Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing experience; strong hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial skills with some PLC knowledge.
- Experience with mechanical systems, product manuals, troubleshooting mechanical breakdowns, and reading mechanical drawings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong interpersonal and decision-making skills.
- Effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage priorities and multiple projects simultaneously.
- Capability to perform calibrations, installation, and maintenance of process and analytical instrumentation.
- Flexibility to work a variable schedule.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
- Competence in performing mechanical work, valve replacement, conveyor bearing and chain replacement, and motor/gearbox replacement.
